Wednesday Jay Karen, President of PAII (Professional Association of Innkeepers International), tickled our imaginations with a social media presentation. His best advice – “Today’s tourism businesses have to master the social media wave,” he told us. “But don’t overwhelm yourself, it will be like trying to drink from a fire hose.”
This was not a how to presentation from Jay but a reason to get started into what he called the web 2.0 world. While everyone wants to receive great reviews, Karen gave examples of how to turn even negative reviews to your advantage. And even a negative review can score points with potential guests when you use some levity and don’t try to defend every point. Guests trust other guests more than they trust the marketer.
So much info and so little time. Truthfully it was so intriguing that we hated to leave Jay and go on with our lives. He had great ideas and his presentation was fabulous. One and a half hours was not enough. (We stayed over 2 hours actually and did not regret a second of it. )
We sure would like to hear more from Jay Karen in the future, especially more about his ideas of this social media wave that has hit the marketing scene.
KUDOS to Jay Karen!
