Recipe: Holiday Sugar Cookies

SAVANNAH Georgia – We are drawn to short getaways, the kind ’where little loves grow’ … even over a B&B dessert bar! These home baked, Holiday Sugar Cookies (recipe below and shown above) add a little holiday color to a simple cookie!

Holiday Sugar Cookies

(for use also with the manger scene, people and animals)

¾ lb butter
4-1/2 Cups Flour (all purpose)
2 Cups sugar
3 Eggs
Pinch Salt

Method:

In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar.  In another bowl beat 3 eggs and then cream the eggs into the butter and sugar mixture. Add a pinch of salt and about ½ the flour. Mix well.  Now add the rest of the flour. Mix thoroughly.  Roll to 1/8” to ¼” thick. Use cookie cutters to cut out people and animals. (We rolled our cookies thick.)

Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 375F degrees for 10 minutes. Remove cookies from cookie sheet and let cool. Frost.

Icing / Frosting Recipe

3 Cups confectioner’s sugar
Water
Food coloring

In a large bowl pour all of the confectioner’s sugar. Gradually add small amounts of water. Mix thoroughly until you achieve a thick pasty consistency. Divide into as many portions as you need colors. Remember: a little color goes a long way. Add desired color and mix in separate cups. Proceed with decorating.
